Professional Presence
What is the first thing you think about when you think about a company?
- Is it something you support? a product? etc...
- Unsure?
- Even when faced with the crisis of a major oil spill, companies want to instill confidence.
- Confident?
- Connecting with the company and the customer base.
- Companies spend money and energy trying to connect with the costumer base
It is important.
10 companies spent more than $1,000,000,000 annually on their image. (That is more than a Billion.)
- Verizon
- Walt Disney
- Proctor and Gamble
- AT&T
- American Express
- Spectrum
- General Motors
- Amazon
- Comcast
We have companies from every industry! (tech, products, eterntainment, etc.)
How companies protect their image
- Have a plan and clear policies in place
- Monitor what customers are saying about you
- Solicit reviews from happy customers
- Ensure that your business is compliant
- You do not want to face big consequences
Translating this to you.
- Companies spend large amounts of money to build, keep or sometimes repair their image.
- There are plans in place to promote the image of a business.
- What is your image? if someone searched on you, what would they find?
Hearing it from your professor
- While you may have looked up your professor prior to taking a class, we also gave you an introduction.
- This introduction sets the stage for how we want you to see us.
- Then, hopefully, it matches with what you find out about us in your search.
Professional Presence - Different forms.
-
When you meet someone, there os am impression you hope to give. Confidence, capable, etc.
-
When someone reads about you, there is also an impression you want to give.
-
Create a great first impression by having developed your own professional presence.
-
Think about the following:
- What different approach would you take for an in person meeting or interview VS a resume?
- What about how you would represent your company at a trade show VS in a printed brochure?
- We will look at these in our activities and in class.
My Comment:
Confidence and tone are a great advice. I'd add that for in-person meetings, things like body language and how you listen also matter a lot since they show how you work with others in real time. With resumes, I feel like it's more about being intentional with wording and layout so your experience tells a clear story.
