CAN
Campus Area Network (CAN)
"Smaller than a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)"
-
CAN it's a mid-size geographical region.
-
On a MAN all the connectivity between sites is gonna be handled by a service provider.
-
On a CAN the infrastructure within the campus is typically maintained by whoever owns the facility
- If it's a university for example, the university runs their own fiber between all the buildings between all the links and is maintained by the university.
- We do not have to pay a monthly fee for using someone's fiber.
-
LANs connected together
- They are just using an owned backend infrastructure, no ISP.
-
College campus, business park, industrial, agricultural
-
High-speed connectivity
- The equipment that you put on either side of these lengths, that's what dictates transfer speeds
-
Scalable
- Just keep buying land, equipment and keep growing it because everything is under my control.
