Fiber Connectors
Different ratings of fiber can handle different speeds and types of devices
Fiber Connectors
- ST connector (straight tip)
- Bayonet twist connector
- Commonly MMF
- SC connector (subscriber connector)
- Push/pull to connect/disconnect
- Used for both SMF and MMF
- LC connector (Lucent connector)
- Similar to SC but half size
- The most suitable choice for a high-speed fiber optic connection because it is compact, making it ideal for modern, high-density networking environments.
- Used for both SMF and MMF
- FC connector (Ferrule Connector/Fiber Channel)
- Fiber optic connector, typically used with single-mode fiber (SMF)
- Screw-on locking mechanism for secure connection
- Common in telecom, data centers, and high-vibration environments
- Slower to connect/disconnect compared to push-pull types like SC or LC
- MT-RJ (media termination recommended jack)
- Connecting fiber optic cables into hardware
- MTRJ combines both transmit and receive fibers into a single ferrule, creating a compact interface ideally suited for high-density network environments.
- Mostly for MMF
- Multi-fiber push on (MPO)
- Excel in high-density scenarios, allowing multiple fibers to be connected simultaneously.
- More commonly for MMF but doable for SMF
